DakhaBrakha

DakhaBrakha is a Ukrainian folk-fusion quartet under the artistic direction of Vladislav Troitsky. The band was formed in 2004 through the DAKH Center of Contemporary Art, and their name is composed of two words that mean “give” and “take.” The band plays in its own unique ethno-chaos style of music, and over its fifteen-year history, DakhaBrakha has presented Ukrainian folk music at the world’s most celebrated music festivals like Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Roskilde, WOMADelaide, Sziget, GlobalFest, Pohoda, Ethno Port, and many more. Critics have called the musicians the cultural ambassadors of Ukraine, and the most famous Ukrainian band abroad.

  • DakhaBrakha were the first Ukrainian artists to appear on the legendary BBC television show Later … with Jools Holland, as well as on Seattle radio station KEXP’s Wo’Pop and NPR Music’s Tiny Desk concert series.
  • David Beckham chose the band’s song “Sho z-pod duba” to promote his grooming brand.
  • Their music also features on the soundtracks of the popular TV series Fargo (USA), the film Bitter Harvest about the Ukranian Genocide of 1932-1933, and Ukrainian films such as Earth, Volcano, The Wild Fields, and Hutsulka Ksenya.

DakhaBrakha has performed in:
